BCS Zambia Coverage

Our fiber network in Zambia is connected to DRC through the border town of Kasumbalesa and extends to other border towns namely Mchinji (connecting Malawi), Chimefusa (connecting Mozambique), Kariba and Livingstone (connecting Zambia), and Sesheke (connecting Namibia).

BCS also completed the Lusaka- Chipata Project of 650 Km on a co-build model and consists of 367 Km of and 283 Km of the Underground network.

In Zambia, we have a total of 1222 Km of the fiber network.


DRC is located in Central Africa, and it is the largest country by area in Sub-Saharan Africa with a surface area of 2,345 million km square (as large as Europe), bordered by the Central African Republic and South Sudan to the north, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and Tanzania to the east, Zambia and Angola to the south, and the Republic of the Congo to the west. 

Given the restrictions on laying cable within the Suez Canal, Europe and Asia are connected exclusively through terrestrial transmission in Egypt and are dependent on fiber cross-connection via Egypt for communication between the continents. The DRC is uniquely positioned to address the political, commercial, and technical vulnerabilities posed by the current international submarine cable topology.  

The proliferation of fiber optic networks in DRC, from its east coast to the west coast, will establish the country as the connection hub between the African countries and between Asia and Europe. Two of the recently completed projects outlined earlier—Muanda-Matadi-Inga and the Lake Albert crossing, are the beginning of achieving this vision.

To assist in the digitization of government services, BCS DRC has offered to allocate twenty-five percent of its dark fiber cores free of charge to the Government of DRC as part of its license terms and conditions. Ownership of these cores will provide the Government with access to a digital highway to serve the nation: e-health, e-education, and e-government services, as well as enhanced national security and inter-government communications and systems.

In DRC we have a total of 718 Km of fiber network on a Co-Build model.


BCS Uganda 

Our fiber network in Uganda begins at the Kenyan – Ugandan border town of Malaba and consists of a combination of overhead and underground backhaul networks. 

We have covered a distance of 4850 km in Uganda, of which 4,015 km of intercity fiber and 835 km of the metro. The metro fiber includes 650 Km in Kampala, 45 Km in Mbarara, 28 Km in Masaka, 23 km in Fort Portal, 37 Km in Jinja, 20 Km in Arua, 22 Km in Mbale, and 10 Km in Tororo.

Our fiber network spans to other cross border towns to access other neighboring countries such as:

  • Nimule and Kaya Towns to connect into South Sudan
  • Gatuna and Kagitumba to connect into Rwanda
  • Kasindi Town to connect into DRC
  • Lake Albert to connect into DRC

Other major intercity projects include

BCS Kenya 

Our company owns a shareholding in the TEAMS submarine cable, connecting mainland Kenya from Fujairah in UAE through the coastal town of Mombasa. 

From Mombasa, we constructed fiber through to Nairobi, from which we extended the network to the Kenyan – Ugandan border town of Malaba, in order to access mainland Uganda which is a landlocked country. 

We have also built 540 km of underground fiber from Isiolo to Marsabit in the Northern part of Kenya towards the border to Ethiopia.
