BCS is a Mauritius-headquartered wholesale telecom infrastructure provider, operating under licenses in Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Zambia, and Democratic Republic of Congo. We are also serving Burundi, South Sudan, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi at their respective border points. The Group owns approximately 5,000 km of terrestrial fiber in Uganda and up to 50 Gbps capacity in The East African Marine System (“TEAMS”), through its 1.25% shareholding in the undersea cable system. BCS Group also leases additional bandwidth to provide seamless backhaul connectivity and redundancy to the region’s telecom operators and Internet Service Providers. Since 2014, BCS Group has leveraged its construction expertise in several East and Central African markets, to build over 7,000 km of fiber networks for its own network and as an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (“EPC”) contractor for third parties
By virtue of operating its own network infrastructure, BCS Group has access to near-unlimited bandwidth with which to serve its growing customer base. BCS Group’s management estimates that the Group’s network carries one-third of the internet capacity in each of Rwanda, South Sudan and Uganda, measured by traffic volume. Our customers in these markets account for two-thirds of data subscribers and they use our services for about half of their capacity needs.
BCS Group values are consistently aligned with the Mission to the extent that they are instrumental for achieving these, and fundamentally reflect an ethical attitude based on principles of tolerance, respect and cooperation with all the stakeholders with which the company wishes to develop and consolidate its project:
- Honesty: We demonstrate integrity in our actions.
- Commitment: We take charge of the proactive consolidation of our projects.
- Credibility: We do what we say.
- Confidence: We know our work.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Our CSR activities are focused on philanthropy, environment conservation, diversity and labor practices, and volunteerism. Through these activities, we are able to enhance public trust, engage our employees, and most importantly create a positive community impact.
We believe that success requires not just continued innovation, but building a next-generation capable of understanding, using, and improving technology. In Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda, we provide a number of schools along our fiber routes with access to free internet so that they can develop new skills and grasp a better understanding of how the external world works with a wealth of information and knowledge.
In DRC, we have entered into a collaboration with the Government to allocate 25% of our dark fiber on the metro and backbone; a digital highway to serve the nation’s e-health, e-education and e-government services, as well as enhanced national security and inter-government communications and systems. We are targeting to connect over 1000 schools and hospitals respectively, along our fiber routes.
BCS Group recognizes that the protection of environment and natural resources is a vital part of development and an integral part of the company’s operations. It also acknowledges its duty to ensure that raw materials, products, and wastes are handled, transported, used, and disposed of safely and without unacceptable risk to the environment.
We adhere to the global environmental protection requirements by maintaining a delicate balance between the human needs to improve lifestyles and preserving natural resources and ecosystems.
Our management policies focus primarily on mitigating environmental and social impacts in the following areas of our optic cable infrastructure installation projects:
- Terrestrial habitat alteration
- Aquatic habitat alteration
- Visual impacts
- Hazardous materials and waste
- Electric and magnetic fields
- Emissions to air
- Noise pollution
We have instituted mitigation measures in order for the effects on the environment to be kept as low as possible and continue to explore opportunities to minimize our impact on the environment.
In our offices across the continent, we implement programs that reduce the use of energy and resources such as paper, and promote recycling.
